"Humble yourselves therefore, even unto... Old Kent Road."

This is not quite one of Jesus' teachings, but it could be after officials at Derby Cathedral announced they want to occupy the cheapest spot on the city's version of Monopoly.

A public vote is open where suggestions can be made for which of Derby's sites should occupy the different slots on the traditional board game. According to local media, some have suggested the city's historic cathedral, which dates back to 943, should be the cheapest property on the board – Old Kent Road.

This is because it is "accessible, has a complete mix of people and it doesn't price people out" according to one voter quoted in the Derby Telegraph. Others have said the Cathedral is "older than William the Conquerer" and so lives up to the "old" label.

Rev Dr Elizabeth Thomson, Derby Cathedral's canon missioner, said: "We're extremely proud to stand alongside everyone in the city and to have received so many votes. Old Kent Road is diverse, inclusive and open to all – just like the Cathedral."

Commentators have also taken to social media to point out the irony that Derby Cathedral has been nominated for a heritage award. The ceremony will be held in London's Park Lane, the second most expensive square on the Monopoly board.
