Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has accused Donald Trump of never having read the Bible and being a narcissist.
Jindal yesterday criticised his Republican presidential rival for biblical illiteracy after Trump failed to name his favourite Bible verse.
Accusing Trump of narcissism, Jindal claimed the reason Trump hadn't read the Bible is because he is not in it.
"You may have recently seen that after Trump said the Bible is his favourite book, he couldn't name a single Bible verse or passage that meant something to him," said Jindal.
"And we all know why, because it's all just a show, and he hasn't ever read the Bible. But you know why he hasn't read the Bible? Because he's not in it."
In the original interview, Trump was asked to name "one or two of your most favourite Bible verses" during an interview on "With All Due Respect" television show.
Trump replied: "I wouldn't want to get into it because to me that's very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible, it's very personal, so I don't want to get into verses," Trump said, adding, "The Bible means a lot to me, but I don't want to get into specifics."
Borrowing Trump's campaign slogan, Jindal said, "We can 'make America great again,' but we will not do that by putting an unserious and unstable narcissist in the White House."
Jindal has accused Trump of being "shallow. Has no understanding of policy. He's full of bluster but has no substance. He lacks the intellectual curiosity to ever learn."
This attack came on the same day a CNN poll revealed Trump's lead increase, taking 32 per cent support.
Leading up to this speech on Thursday, Jindal's campaign compared Trump to controversial actor Charlie Sheen in a video.
Trump has a track record of retaliating to provocation, and a response to Jindal is predicted.
