iPad Mini line to be discontinued for new iPad Pro release?

iPad Mini 3 Apple

Latest rumors claim that the iPad Mini 3 will be the last miniature tablet from Apple and the company will finally let go of the iPad Mini line.

The rumor stems from a report by Taiwanese website Economic Daily, which states that Apple is moving to another direction and will discontinue the iPad Mini line next year to give way to a bigger tablet – the iPad Pro.

The iPad Pro is rumored to sport a bigger 12.2-inch screen display and will pack some of the features of the new iPad Air 2 such as A8X processor, 8 MP rear camera and 1.2 MP front-facing camera. The tablet will allegedly run the latest iOS 8 that boasts the latest software features like Apple Pay and iHealth. iPad Pro also is reported to be thinner than last year's iPad Air, but will be slightly thicker than the newly-released iPad Air 2.

Another reason why Apple might kill the iPad Mini is due to the release of the iPhone 6 Plus. The new smartphone packs a massive 5.5-inch screen display. Its successors are expected to have bigger screen displays as well, close to the 7.9-inch screen panel of the iPad Mini.

Some users, reports say, held back from buying the iPad Mini in favor of the new Apple phablet, claiming that they prefer the iPhone 6 Plus as it has an additional mobile advantage while having an almost similar screen size to the mini tablet.

However, the iPad Mini 3 price starts at $399 with next day delivery, while the iPhone 6 Plus price starts at $299 with two-year contract from the consumers' chosen carrier and they have to wait for weeks for delivery.

Meanwhile, the current iPad Mini 3 packs a 7.9-inch screen display, last year's dual-core, 1.3 GHz A7 processor with 64-bit processor paired with 1 GB of RAM, 5 MP back camera and 1.5 MP front-facing camera, and 6470 mAh battery capacity. The tablet runs the new iOS 8 operating system.
