A new album featuring London-based gospel artists is to raise funds for disadvantaged children in war-torn Congo.

More than a quarter million people have been displaced in Congo since the latest round of fighting broke out between government troops and rebel forces in August.

Acoustic Gospel Vol II, to be released on independent label Rockhill Music, is a collection of 18 original gospel tracks featuring songs performed by a range of talents like teenager Zoe Oputah, winner of Harmonise 2008, Christian Aid's gospel talent search, gospel singer Andrea Nyles and hip hop quartet Four Kornerz.

As well as featuring a range of contemporary gospel arrangements, Rockhill Music will donate £1.50 from every album sold to Christian Aid to help fund their work with their partners in the Congo such as Humanite Nouvelle, a charity which works with the country's street children.

Akin Ogboye, co-director of Rockhill Music says, "We are really excited by quality of the Christian artists that have contributed to this album. More importantly, we are glad that proceeds from this album wlll be donated to a good cause and will in some way help to ease the suffering currently being experienced by young people in DR Congo."

Acoustic Gospel Vol II has garnered praise from one of Britain's leading soloists, MOBO Award winner Beverley Knight.

She commented, "Everyone knows that I like to support young UK talent and so I am happy to support Acoustic Gospel Volume Two. As well as the great gospel singers on the record, £1.50 from the sale of each album will go to children's projects funded by Christian Aid, so here's hoping people get behind it."

Tickets are on sale for the official album launch in London on Sunday. Artists featured on the project will be performing at the launch.

"I do hope that the public will support this project, whether its by attending our launch or buying the album, because some of the proceeds will be donated to a worthy cause," said Ogboye.
