Xbox One fans had the treat of their lives when some Xbox 360 popular game titles became available as part of Xbox One Backward Compatibility program. However, those treats were only short-lived.
"Red Dead Redemption," "Halo Wars," "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night," and "Tekken Tag Tournament 2" were the game titles listed as part of the Backward Compatibility program over the weekend. However, it turns out it was an error and access to those games was barred on Sunday.
Microsoft has addressed the issue immediately by releasing a statement of apology. Larry Hryb, also known as Major Nelson, the director of programming at Xbox Live, wrote the announcement on Reddit.
"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available," the statement reads.
"We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."
It has yet to be announced if "Red Dead Redemption" will be part of the Backward Compatibility program. Having sold more than 14 million copies, based on a report from Take-Two Interactive submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the title is the most in-demand game for the program.
Now that the confusion has been cleared, fans can only hope that "Red Dead Redemption" will soon be available.
The Xbox One Backward Compatibility program allows Xbox One users to enjoy Xbox 360 game titles in the newer console. More than 100 game titles are now available, and there are more to come, according to the official site.
At this point, gamers can already enjoy fan-favorite titles including "Halo Reach," "Fable III," "Gears of War 3," "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings," and "Fallout 3," among others.
