'The Witcher 3' DLC news: free packs offer Skellige armor set, Skellige most wanted contract

The Witcher 3 Skellige armor and contract DLC CD Projekt Red

Game developer CD Projekt Red has been giving free DLC content to players of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" for several weeks now, with a total of 16 free DLC packs planned for release. This week, the studio offers DLC packs 11 and 12 which give gamers a new "Skellige" armor set and a "Skellige" Most Wanted contract.

According to a report from IGN, CD Projekt Red promised gamers that they will be given free DLC pieces every week and have thus far been true to that promise.

When the game was launched, they gave out the "Temerian" armor set as well as the "Beard and Hairstyle" set. This was then followed by the "Missing Miners" contract as well as a new design for Yennefer. They followed this with armor sets, crossbow weapons, new Gwent cards and more additional quests such as "Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear" and a new design for Triss.

CD Projekt Red's system is a stark contrast to the way other games are doing things these days. Most titles, including the recently released "Batman: Arkham Knight," require gamers to pay even more money to unlock content that is already in the game.

"As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven't we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game?" explained CD Projekt Red co-CEO Marcin Iwinski in a report from Gamespot.

He added, "At CD Projekt Red, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,' we have decided to do it differently. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game."

Following the free DLC for this week, CD Projekt Red also released notes for an upcoming patch, as reported by Game Rant. The patch will fix a glitch wherein the player's gold resets after it goes above 65,535; Geralt's clothing will no longer be wet when a player leaves the game's menu; and several glitches concerning the Potion of Clearance.
