HBO's "Westworld" was initially set to launch in 2015 until it was delayed due to script rewrites and reshoots. To assure fans that the show is indeed premiering this year HBO has released a brand-new teaser trailer that aired right before "Game of Thrones" season 6 episode 9.

As stated in a report from /Film, the film is set in a futuristic theme park populated by super advanced androids where customers can indulge in any fantasy. The theme park, built by Dr. Robert Ford (Sir Anthony Hopkins), suddenly experiences problems when the androids start gaining sentience and begin rebelling against the customers and caretakers.

The official synopsis for the series reads as follows:

"'Westworld' is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged."

According to a report from /Film, the series is executive produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Nolan also wrote and directed much of the series. When the series hit a roadblock and required reshoots J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Company came in to ensure the series moves forward.

"Westworld" is a remake of the 1977 film which was written and directed by novelist Michael Crichton. It is undetermined if the series is a direct remake or if it is merely taking elements and plot events and then spinning them into its own story. The latter is hinted at given that the names of the character differ from the characters of the film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actors for the series have signed a multi-year deal which means they will be reprising their roles in succeeding seasons instead of the show rebooting itself as an anthology akin to "True Detective."

No official release date has yet been announced but the teaser and HBO confirm that "Westworld" will premiere this October.
