'Wayward Pines' season 2 renewed? Talks for new season reportedly in early stages

The first season of "Wayward Pines" saw the death of main character Ethan (Matt Dillon) as he sacrificed himself to save the rest of the townspeople from being killed by the monsters referred to as the Abbies. But his son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), though badly injured was able to survive the attack, and he woke up in the hospital three years later and learned that Jason and the rest of Class One froze most of the adults and that Jason is now in charge of the town.

While fans are looking forward to seeing Ben continue the mission that his father has started in the new season of the show, there has been no announcement regarding a second season from Fox or from executive producer M. Night Shyamalan. The first season ended its 10-episode run last month, and so far, there has been no word from the network or from "The Sixth Sense" director. Moreover, the show's official Facebook and Twitter pages also hold no clues for the series' future.

On July 17, Seriable reported that the show was canceled by Fox after the network reportedly billed the finale as a "series" rather than a "season" finale. The network has reportedly confirmed that the show will stand as a miniseries, despite talks about renewing the show for a second season.

However, in late July, a new report claims that Fox is exploring the possibility of a season 2 for "Wayward Pines." Deadline reports that there is a chance that the show could be picked up for a potential second season, but this time with different characters and cast. Talks are reportedly in the early stages and Fox executives are expected to meet with the show's creative team to talk about a possible new season.

It was also revealed at the Fox panel at the TCA Summer Tour that Shyamalan and "Wayward Pines" author Blake Crouch have started discussing a second season, which could possibly be another miniseries event.
