The first official trailer for "Voltron: Legendary Defender" season 2 has been released online, and it offers a good look at the Paladins in disarray following the events of the season 1 finale. The trailer also gives the indication that the team is going to see a major shift in leadership.

The trailer (courtesy of Comic Book), starts with Shiro telling Keith that he may no longer be able to lead the Voltron team and that he is passing this responsibility to Keith, pilot of the Red Lion. Fans speculate that this means Keith will pilot the Black Lion and Princess Allura may take over as the pilot for the Red Lion.

This will mirror the original series, "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," in which Shiro (then known as Sven) leaves the team. In the original team, Keith had always piloted the Black Lion and Shiro had the Blue Lion. When Shiro had to leave, Princess Allura became the Blue Lion pilot.

Also seen in the trailer is a snippet of the Lions using different warp points to travel across the galaxy and Emperor Zarkon continuing his mission to hunt them down. Now that the Lions have been separated, Zarkon is rumored to be able to capture the Lions one by one since they cannot form Voltron.

One of the clips also showcases Pidge and Hunk underwater as they look upon what appears to be an underwater city. It is uncertain if this is located on the same planet previously shown in the trailer, a planet with a lot of water and tall mountains.

By the end of the trailer only Pidge, Hunk, Keith, and Lance are shown in a sequence, further hinting that Shiro may have to relinquish his duty after getting captured by Zarkon and his men.

"Voltron: Legendary Defender" season 2 is scheduled to air this year, although no specific date has been announced as of writing.
