'Vikings' season 4 episode 11 air date, spoilers: Lagertha's new lover to be introduced

Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha on "Vikings" History HD

Fans of the "Vikings" series on History HD have always considered Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) as one of the show's best characters, even after she and Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) had gone separate ways. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Lagertha is going to find some respite as she will meet a new lover when "Vikings" season 4 returns.

Episode 11 will be introducing a new love interest for Lagertha, a shieldmaiden who has focused primarily on war and her ties to Ragnar throughout the past few seasons. The big twist, however, is that her new lover is named Astrid and as the name suggests, Astrid is a female. She will be played by Josefin Asplund.

The report points out that it would only make sense for Lagertha to be in a relationship with a woman given how the men she had been with have either betrayed her or let her down in some form. She is also reportedly not the type of woman who would just decide to live life on her own.

Series creator Michael Hirst explained that Astrid was based on the German studen existentialist named Astrid Kirchherr, the woman who reportedly met the Beatles and gave them their iconic haircut. He further explains that when fans see Astrid for the first time it will be in Lagertha's great house, when Ragnar pays her a visit.

Hirst reveals that Lagertha may be aiming to get revenge against Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland). This is also hinted in the official trailer for season 4 part 2 as Lagertha is heard telling Aslaug "I will never forgive you for taking away my husband, my world, and my happiness."

While this hints that Lagertha may launch some form of plan the show does have a tendency of being unpredictable. The report does reveal that Viking society is largely based on revenge, war and honor and Lagertha may be keeping all three ideals with her as she hates Aslaug through the years.

"Vikings" season 4 episode 11 airs this fall.
