"Vikings" season 4 will throw Ragnar into a sea of troubles. His journey to Paris with his sons won't be easy as fans have guessed, with threats on their safety and his health. It is even speculated that this season, fans will see Ragnar ousted by his people, prompting one of his scions to take over.
This, of course, will bring about a feud between the siblings. According to reports, Bjorn Ironside will take the place of his father as the head of the Vikings, something Ivor will not easily come to terms with. That said, rivalry will certainly ensue.
Nevertheless, Bjorn is still likely getting the throne; it won't be a smooth transition for him though. In season 4, he will be seen struggling for two reasons — the death of his wife he has yet to move on from, and the challenge of trying to gain the people's trust.
Speaking of trust, Ragnar will be having trouble giving his to anyone, even (or especially) to the ones he gave it to before. Last season, his own brother Rollo betrayed him and sided with France after Emperor Charles promised to give him power and marriage to his daughter Gisla in exchange for his loyalty.
Needless to say, a massive, intense battle between the two will take place, and series creator Michael Hirst told to Variety that this moment will be one of the biggest the season will feature and it will definitely be something to look forward to. He guaranteed that he is ramping up his game in the new season and he will do so with this throwdown.
"The big, big confrontation between Ragnar and Rollo, which is likely to be definitive, is at another level again," he said. "Last time it was just one fight, one battle between them, but this time there's much more at stake and it's got to be a lot more than that. So, the personal issues, the stakes are higher."
He also emphasized his love for the characters and his desire to bring them to new adventures.
"Vikings" season 4 premieres next year.
