'Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Character death expected

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 mid-season finale is arriving and this means that there will be a major character death just around the corner. Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) not only confirmed it, the type of episode coming is a big hint, too.

But while the rumors have been going around, fans cannot determine who that character is. One thing is certain though: it will happen very soon.

In an interview with E! News, Wesley confirmed the news.

"Dude, there's always deaths, there is a big one coming up, I will say that, there is a big one that's really going to break the people's hearts," he said.

While Wesley didn't say if it will be a major character or not, Cartermatt.com pointed out that the mid-season finale will be a flashback type of episode. The flashbacks will go way back when the characters were still in high school. The site explained that before a character dies, flashback scenes are often used to complete the picture.

So, given the clues, which major character is most likely to die? Elena, Stefan and Damon are most probably the safest characters in the show right now. Even if one of them may eventually leave the show due to contract reasons, it definitely won't happen in the middle of a season.

This leaves Caroline, Bonnie, Matt, Jeremy, Alaric and Caroline's mom Sheriff Liz Forbes. The Sheriff did leave Mystic Falls to visit Caroline and spend Christmas with her. Could this be her last memorable moment before she says goodbye to the series?

But then, death in "The Vampire Diaries" doesn't always mean it's a bad thing. Fans very well know that people can come back to life in this show.

Catch "The Vampire Diaries" on The CW this Thursday.
