'The Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers: Could Elena return? Will Bonnie last beyond this season?

Bonnie in "The Vampire Diaries" The CW

For the first time, there will be no Nina Dobrev in "The Vampire Diaries." In the finale of the previous season, her character Elena was cursed to sleep for as long as Bonnie lives . However, Candice Accola, who plays Elena's best friend Caroline in the hit supernatural series, hinted that she may not be gone for good.

"We're used of people leaving the show and then coming back from the dead," the actress told Just Jared during her interview about her Fashionisima magazine cover. "You never know what will happen."

While Dobrev's return in the series is still up in the air, Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie, talked about her future beyond "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. Speaking to Hunger TV, Graham said her character has more to show and stories to tell.

"I think I was really excited about the idea of doing a season 7, based on the fact that I feel like my character, who was basically in the other dimension for about two years, finally got out, and I knew that the fans felt that the character's story wasn't completed," she said.

She added that there are still mysteries about Bonnie that need to be uncovered. The actress feels like her relationship with Damon and the people around her "had not come full circle or had not fully developed." Her curiosity to know more about those swayed her for "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

However, Graham said  that there are also other factors to consider for her to actually hop on board another season. Story-wise, she recognizes that Bonnie has yet to be fully fleshed out in the show.

"I didn't feel like the character's story was done, I felt that there was more that they could do, but I won't say I would do a Season eight, it really depends on whether I'm fulfilled, and whether we're like 'Okay, this story's been told, and we're good to go,'" she added.
