'Under the Dome' season 4 renewal hopes? Show will not be shopped to other networks or platforms

It is time for the big battle in the upcoming episode of "Under the Dome." Facebook/CBS

When CBS officially cancelled "Under the Dome," the hit TV series based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, it was widely believed that it would be shopped around to other networks or to online streaming platforms such as Netflix. However, according to TVLine, this will never be the case.

Executive producer Neal Baer revealed to TVLine that there are no plans to take "Under the Dome" outside of CBS. While other series such as "Longmire" were able to make the transition over to Netflix, Baer revealed that the season 3 ending for "Under the Dome" will serve as the series' closing and that he is content with how the show ended.

"I'm very happy with this ending," Baer told TVLine. "I feel very satisfied. We made it so there could be another season... but it wasn't necessary."

Baer continued to explain that while they were not initially aware the third season would be their last, they did try to make the season conclude the series' story thus far. The season 3 finale tied up most of the loose ends while still keeping an open door for a fourth season — Dawn (Kylie Bunbury) did see an egg at the last moment.

If the series did get renewed for a fourth season, Baer stated that it would be a challenge to keep the show fresh. He jokingly stated that they might have had the characters move to somewhere else and that a dome would instead fall on a new place.

The executive producer stated that if there was any storyline that he wanted to put more emphasis on, it would be bringing back some of the characters in their avatar form. He explained that it would have been nice to bring back some characters just to haunt Big Jim (Dean Norris).
