'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date: Madhouse Productions will take over; launch in winter?

Tokyo Ghoul - Ken Kaneki Studio Pierrot

Studio Pierrot produced and developed the first two seasons of "Tokyo Ghoul," loosely based on the manga by Sui Ishida. However, according to a report from Anime Maru, season 3 is going to be handled by Madhouse Productions and is set to be released by winter this year.

Madhouse is known primarily for making "Death Note," "Vampire Hunter D" and most recently the "One-Punch Man" anime series. It is a well-known and highly regarded anime series and many fans have been clamoring for the studios to take over after the lackluster adaptation of seasons 1 and 2.

"This is perhaps the most disillusioning, psychological and darkest plot line that we will attempt to adapt" explained an anonymous writer of the studio who only went by the codename Bob. "We hope to remain as faithful as possible to the source material, although we cannot guarantee that more gory scenes such as Touka's standardized exam test-taking will not be censored."

Despite the news it is noted that no other website has posted the same interview and the details have not surfaced anywhere else. Madhouse has also given no other statement regarding the matter and no other employee has confirmed that they are indeed working on "Tokyo Ghoul" seasn 3.

It is also important to note that Studio Pierrot has yet to make any confirmation that they are moving the third season into Madhouse's hands, indicating that the interview might be fake until either studio steps forward with an official announcement.

Should season 3 move forward, whether under Madhouse or Studio Pierrot, it is speculated to focus on Touka Kirishima instead of Ken Kaneda, shifting the spotlight to a career who barely got enough attention in the first two seasons of the show.

No offiical word has been released regarding season 3's premiere, although it is expected to premiere by the end of the year or by early 2017.
