Cyberpunk action game "Tokyo 42" gets its first expansion from SMAC Games. The new downloadable content (DLC), called "Smaceshi's Castles," adds new missions to the isometric stealth-shooter game.
Kotaku reports that the expansion is a minimalist version of the original game, but no less difficult. "The basic design of the original open world was more about coming up with clever solutions to problems and using the environment, so what we wanted to do was produce some purer gameplay levels," said SMAC Games Director Maciek Strychalski in an official announcement.
He added that "Smaceshi's Castles" will contain 90 new stages — five combat missions, 10 stealth missions, 25 parkour missions, as well as 20 bike race missions. Even though each short, they could be more difficult than the main game, and may require several tries to complete.
Single players will also get four new weapons — short bow, long bow, shuriken, and shuriken fan.
There will be three castles, each representing a different side of gameplay — Combat, Stealth and Parkour. Each castle contains various arenas, where a player will have to participate different missions like horde mode battle, target practice or timed parkour challenge. Players must be able to pass through as fast and as discreetly as possible as they will be rated based on speed and skill.
The expansion does away with any narrative. The only goal is to earn medals and unlock challenges.
Apart from the DLC, SMAC also released an easy mode for the main game, which increases the number of hits players can suffer — from one to three — before they die in the game.
Additionally, the game developer updated its multiplayer maps with a new one based on the picturesque Warwickshire village Bishops Itchington. A trailer of the map can be seen below.
"Smaceshi's Castles" is currently available only for Steam, for $8.
Set in a futuristic Japanese capital, "Tokyo 42" is the so-called love child of isometric science fiction game "Syndicate" and open world action-adventure "Grand Theft Auto 1." It was released in May 2017.
