CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher" series has come out with its third installment entitled "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," which has been set for a release in early 2015. The developers of the highly popular action-adventure RPG games have opened up about their experiences in selecting the cultural context for their latest creation.
As "The Witcher" franchise has been drawn out from a set of novels created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, its game adaptations have also been anchored in Slavic history and mythology.
As pointed out by senior art producer Michał Krzemiński, such influence is evident all throughout the game, from the characters to the building designs. The team behind the games also took the time to carry out extensive research about Slavic history and culture to incorporate relevant ideas for the "Wild Hunt" world.
According to Krzemiński, "The Witcher" should be deemed as a living universe that breathes its own unique myths and legends. Gamers can look forward to ample twists and turns as well as unexpected ventures to complement the main story.
Other cultures and folklores in Europe have also been integrated into the game's development. Many of the adventures in "Wild Hunt" have been influenced by such notions, such as the Viking sagas and practices in medieval Amsterdam.
Looking into a new teaser page of the upcoming game, fans are invited to "follow the trail" in order to "discover the secret." The page had already been shared by CD Projekt RED's community manager Marcin Momot using his Twitter account, inviting players to share such page on various social media platforms.
By using the respective share buttons, it is expected that gamers will get something in return, although no hints have been dropped yet.
Fans of the franchise can look forward to "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" as it will be made available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on Feb. 14, 2015.
