CD Projekt Red is giving gamers another good reason why they should buy the upcoming game, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt": they are planning to roll out free DLCs. As of the moment, the game developer is mulling over the release of 16 free expansions for the open-world RPG.
The expansions are not huge; they are a series of perks that would keep the players happy. The add-ons are not of large variety, but they are free. The gaming studio is making a statement and starting a trend by offering free DLCs since most game developers and publishers often offer the additional content for a fee.
In an interview with IGN, CD Projekt Red's co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski said that the developers owe the gamers for simply buying the game at full price.
"We, as gamers, would like to be treated this way, 'Hey, give me free DLC.' It doesn't have to be something huge. And I'm saying we aren't giving out huge stuff, we aren't giving tens of hours of storyline here; we are giving small bits of pieces that don't cost a lot. And I think people would feel better about our game, and so, they will enjoy the adventure even more," Iwinski told the publication.
Iwinski added that handing out free DLCs lessen the risk of piracy as gamers will most likely buy the original version of the game if they will only need to pay for the title and not the downloadable content.
"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" release is now set on May 19 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, after the developer delayed the release of the game from Feb. 25.
The delay is to improve the graphics and visuals of the game to make sure that it works perfectly on all platforms. A lot of games suffered rocky launches due to bugs and issues, so the studio is working to ensure that players will have optimal game experience.
