'The Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Will Elena switch off her humanity to deal with Damon's loss?

Trailers point to Elena shutting off her humanity in order to deal with the pain of the alleged death of her lover Damon.

CW Network released a couple of videos for the upcoming sixth season of "The Vampire Diaries," and each trailer shows Elena struggling with grief over the loss of the love of her life. She can be seen in the trailers crying, showing violence, feeding on humans, and resorting to drugs to produce hallucinations of Damon. This leads to speculations that she will turn off her humanity again to shut off the pain.

Many fans know well that Elena went down to this path before in order to deal with the death of her brother, Jeremy. In season 4, Elena could not handle the pain when the last remaining member of her family died and she was left alone. She felt that she had nothing to live for, prompting her to try to commit her own death. However, Damon encouraged her to live on and eliminate the pain by shutting off her humanity. After she did, she burned down her childhood home, attacked humans, and was cruel to her friends.

Meanwhile, reports claim that Nina Dobrev will be leaving the show for good, and her ex-boyfriend Ian and his shotgun romance with Nikki Reed is to blame. Whispers say that Nina is jealous of Ian and Nikki canoodling in the set of "The Vampire Diaries."

Other reports state that Nina is pursuing a bigger career on the silver screen. Her role as Elena Gilbert in the TV series has increased her popularity, and it can be deemed as a great stepping stone for her career. Now, the 25-year old actress may be aiming for more big screen projects after the success of "Let's Be Cops."  She also starred in films such as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" alongside Emma Watson, and "Chloe" with Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will be back on air on Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. EST on CW Network.
