'The Vampire Diaries' season 6: Damon and Elena to have new love interests

The latest "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 spoilers revealed that Damon and Elena will be apart and will have new love interests.

In the last episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 5, many fans shed tears as Damon and Bonnie have gone to The Other Side after the success of Project Kaboom. The whereabouts of the two are still unknown. Avid viewers were hoping that Damon and Bonnie were not dead and will be back next season.

But this hope was denied by the "The Vampire Diaries" writer and producer Julie Plec who said that Damon and Bonnie who disappeared to The Other Side will never come back, although she did not confirm whether the two were dead. With Damon not coming back, Elena will be left on her own.

However, Hollywood Hills reported that Damon & Bonnie may develop a romance next season, hinting that they may still appear somehow next season. The closeness of Damon and Bonnie was seen at the recent San Diego Comic Con.

Elena, on the other hand, will be working as an intern at the Whitmore Medical Center where she will be able to show off her skills, according to Spoiler TV. She will work under Dr. Jo Robles who will be played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.

Elena will also be a love interest for Alaric, although not immediately. It is believed that Elena will grieve the loss of her lover first. The panel at the recent San Diego Comic Con, especially the executive producer, confirmed that Elena and Stefan will not rekindle their old flame. Stefan will not be involved in a relationship as he, too, is grieving for the loss of his brother. Thus, it seemed that Elena will be alone for a while.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 will be back on air on Oct. 2 at 8/7 on The CW.
