1956's "The Ten Commandments" is often considered as a milestone in Hollywood cinema and is one of Charlton Heston's most popular films. However, according to a report from Tracking Board, the film will be given the remake treatment by Paramount Pictures, the same team behind last year's "Noah."
Disruption Entertainment's Cale Boyter and Mary Parent are producing the film alongside Paramount Pictures' Elizabeth Raposo, who will be in charge of overseeing the project. No director has yet been attached although the report states that Paramount is searching for someone who is interested in "a different take" of the Biblical tale.
As stated by the report, this would not be Disruption Entertainment's first Biblical movie as they were the same team behind 2014's "Noah," which was directed by Darren Aronofsky and starred Russell Crowe in the titular role. The film grossed over $362 million worldwide while also receiving generally positive reviews from critics.
It will also be the second recent film to tackle the tale of Moses. Last year saw the release of Ridley Scott's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" starring Christian Bale as Moses. Like "Noah," the film did not financially succeed in the domestic box office but became a hit in the international market.
The 1956 original, directed by Cecil B. DeMille, was the most expensive movie produced at the time. The effort and financial banking paid off, however, as the film was later given seven nominations for that year's Academy Awards, including the nomination for Best Picture. It is also noted for being DeMille's final project.
As of the time of writing, no director, writer or cast has been attached to the project, although it is likely that the film will borrow elements from the script of the 1956 original while introducing its own twists and changes. No production date or release date has yet been announced for the film.
