'The Strain' season 3 release date spoilers: season 3 is preparing for the end

The Strain season 3 FX

"The Strain" season 3 has just premiered its first episode, immediately setting up the battle in New York as the Strigoi begin taking over. In an interview with Cinema Blend, co-creator Chuck Hogan discussed how season 3 is the beginning of the end and how it will set up the eventual finale of the series.

"We went from 13 episodes to 10, and I feel it supercharged the story-telling in every facet. Now that the mystery of what's been going on, and how 'The Strain' is spread in NY, we've played that out and now the threat is real. And we've got our characters no longer trying to figure out what's going on, but actively trying to fight against it. This season is pretty much wall to wall, crazy stuff," Hogan explained.

As noted in the report, trimming down the number of episodes per season would eliminate the need for filler episodes and would guarantee a tighter-packed presentation.

The report also compared the seasons to the novels, showcasing how the first two seasons of the show are akin to the first arc of a novel given how it introduces the Strigoi, the lore and the Master. Season 3 was compared to the second arc of a novel and this would mean any future season would be the third and final arc, officially ending the show.

In a separate interview with the PlayStation Blog, Hogan explained that the series had always been intended to be a television series but during the mid-2000's the networks didn't think it would work and so Hogan and Guillermo del Toro developed the stories as novels instead

This made it easy for the duo to adapt it into a screenplay when FX finally greenlit the series and Hogan explains that they encountered very little issues when adapting the story from the novels to television.
