Game developer Daedalic Entertainment struck a deal to develop Ken Follet's best-selling novel "Pillars of the Earth" into a video game. The studio said that the game will be released in 2017.

The developers have not started yet, but there are reports stating that the video game will be an adventure game set in a medieval English town. An adventure type of game is fitting to the storyline of the book.

"Together with Bastei Lübbe and Ken Follett we determined that the genre of adventure games is the best and most suitable way to adapt and express the substantial depth of such a historical novel. Adventure games are interactive literature, and we at Daedalic dedicated ourselves to the perfection of this genre's playing experience," said Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann.

Gamers can expect medieval fights, in-depth plot, and power struggles. This could be a game that will really make gamers think.

The novel "Pillars of the Earth" was first published in 1989 and is set in the fictitious town of Kingsbridge where building a cathedral caused a rift among clergy, nobles and common people. As a treat to the fans, the video game will be released alongside a new book in the series.

The author is excited for the project, saying that it will bring the book to the attention of modern readers.

"I'm thrilled that The Pillars of the Earth is going to be turned into a computer game by Daedalic. I believe this will bring my work to the attention of a new generation of readers," Follet told Gamewatcher

This is not the first time that the author signed a deal with his popular novel. The book was adapted into a mini-series in 2010 and was shown in Starz.

The game is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One. Reports also said that the game is coming to iOS. Thus, a mobile app version of the game will be in the pipeline.
