Henry Allen (John Wesley Shipp) may have been killed off in the penultimate episode of "The Flash" season 2, but the finale episode did give fans of the show several big surprises, including the identity of the man in the iron mask. In regards to this, Shipp has confirmed that he will be coming back in season 3.
"Yes. I've been given permission to say that yes, they have all kinds of exciting and interesting plans for me, that are interesting not only in the context of the storyline, but they continue to spin out, which will be very challenging for me as an actor," he told Entertainment Weekly. "That's all I'm allowed to say about that. I will be back next season."
With the way season 2 ended, it is possible that Shipp will return to portray several different characters or at least different versions of the same character given that Barry (Grant Gustin) went back in time to completely alter history and also because of the multiverse that the second season had established.
It is undetermined if Shipp will focus primarily on portraying Henry Allen, possibly out of prison given that Barry is changing the events that occurred when he was a child, or if he is going to be presented more as the real Jay Garrick suited up as an elder speedster the way he was shown in the season 2 finale.
According to Cinema Blend, Barry's decision to alter time may also affect the death of Henry Allen. It is possible that by changing time, he may also be able to prevent Zoom (Teddy Sears) from killing Henry and destroying much of Earth-1 and Earth-2.
It is likely that these changes will also affect "Supergirl," which is now being moved to The CW.
"The Flash" season 3 has no official premiere date, but it is expected to launch before the end of the year, along with season 5 of "Arrow" and season 2 of "Legends of Tomorrow."
