'The Blacklist' season 4 release date, spoilers: rumor has it Liz and Red embark on an affair

 NBC

"The Blacklist" season 3 ended with Liz (Megan Boone) faking her own death, to the dismay of many including her constant ally Reddington (James Spader). However, it turns out she is still around for season 4 and now that she has separated from her husband Tom (Ryan Eggold), it is rumored she will be having an affair with Red.

"He's not insensitive to the fact of what she's going through in her life right now and he's aware of her knowledge of his feelings about all of it, and he's made that plain," explained Spader to Entertainment Weekly. "I think he would have an understanding for what led to this."

The report also points out that despite Red trying harder to show his affection and feelings for Liz in the past few episodes of "The Blacklist" season 3, Liz has done her best to continuously push him away. This may be due to Liz already being married and with a child or because of her own restrictions and opinions regarding Red's character.

It was previously speculated that Red was Liz's long-lost biological father but this theory was disproved when Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) turned out to be her father. However, the series' executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath have explained in a separate interview that this opens the doors to explore Red's real connection to Liz.

The producers also confirm that season 4 will tackle more on the truth about what happened to Liz, how she faked her death and why she faked her death. It is possible that these plot elements will be mingled as the story progresses through the relationship she has with Red.

It is also explained that Red is devastated when he learns Liz faked her death although he does understand that simply being with her has caused her to be closer to danger than ever before.

"The Blacklist" season 4 premieres this September.
