"The Blacklist" season 3 episode 3 is titled "Eli Matchett" and for the first time this season Reddington (James Spader) and Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) will take the offensive. As stated in the official synopsis, they will be heading out through a detour in the Mid West as they attempt to take down the Cabal and clear Liz's name.

The previous episode saw Red pick up arms and declare, "This is only the beginning, and I won't stop until the only way forward is to exonerate Elizabeth Keen. Please, tell them I'm coming."

However, the episode did not reveal who Red was speaking to and it is likely that this may be another of Red's contacts from the FBI blacklist. It may be a former associate who owes Red a debt of favor or it could be someone from his past.

Of course Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff), Aram (Amir Arison) and Samar (Mozhan Marnò) will be on their trails pursuing them, although this time with the help of Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), who previously told Ressler that Liz needs their help in order to survive.

Ressler and his team will also come across a new issue that could lead to a global food crisis. This will not only cause complications for their hunt for Red and Liz but it will also serve as a good diversion that may buy Liz and Red more time to clear Liz's records and find better means of taking down the Cabal.

As stated in a report from Cartermatt, the exoneration plot involving Liz is a big departure from the formula of the previous two seasons, a formula that has made "The Blacklist" highly successful, but the report does point out that the new story arc is a good diversion and the ratings have proven that the fans are willing to explore it further.

"The Blacklist" season 3 episode 3, "Eli Matchett," airs this Oct. 15.
