As "The Big Bang Theory" continues in what many believe to be its final few seasons, the show pulls no strings and continues to bring out big key events such as Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) having sex and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) getting pregnant. Showrunner Steve Molaro now reveals even more surprises are on the way.
Speaking to TVLine, Molaro revealed that at this point on the show it would be perfect to start revealing characters that have only been teased and discussed in the past. According to Molaro, Bernadette's pregnancy may be the key to finally bringing on Howard's (Simon Helberg) father to the fold.
As pointed out in a report from Cinema Blend, Howards' father, Sam Wolowitz, left the family when Howard was 11. In a previous season Howard later discovered that he had a half-brother named Josh, played by actor Matt Bennett.
Sam Wolowitz may not be the only character to pop up in season 9 or in season 10 as Molaro continues to explain that even Dr. Hofstadter, Leonard's (Johnny Galecki) father, may be making an appearance as well at some point.
"Howard's dad is certainly floating out there somewhere, and this baby is certainly a reason why we might finally get to see him," explained Molaro. "I will tell you that we've been starting to think about other people we haven't met, like Leonard's dad and who that might be. We're thinking about exploring that before the end of Season 9."
Previous characters that were teased but eventually shown were Sheldon's grandmother, Penny's father, Sheldon's sister and Bernadette's father, who later became a returning guest star from time to time. Both Leonard and Sheldon's mothers have made regular appearances in the series as well.
Molaro's comments indicate that at least one of the two aforementioned fathers may be making an appearance this ninth season, although no confirmations have been made yet regarding which one has been decided and cast.
