Samsung Galaxy S5: T-Mobile rolls out Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update

Following Verizon Wireless, another U.S. carrier is reportedly rolling out the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update. As of the moment, T-Mobile is delivering the customized version of the update to Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets.

According to TmoNews, the first wave is headed to Galaxy S5 users via over-the-air update. This is proven by a number of subscribers who posted screenshots of their Samsung handsets showing that they have received the mobile software.

The news is unsurprising since Galaxy S5 users in other countries have been enjoying Lollipop already. Parts of Europe got the update first, including Poland, Spain, Russia, U.K., Czech Republic and Romania. Furthermore, some Asian countries also rolled out the OS like South Korea, Hong Kong and Malaysia. It is only a matter of time before the update reaches U.S. shores.

Anticipating T-Mobile subscribers should receive a notification that the new firmware is available for download. Those who have not received the notification can go to Settings > General > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates. The Galaxy S5 can also be updated via KIES.

The Android 5.0 update is 1 GB in size and brings a variety of new software features, including Material Design, a user interface that significantly alters the look of the previous Android. Aside from the visual appearance given by the OS, Google also improves the smartphone's camera shortcuts, lock screen notifications, and security. The new firmware update also includes the Recents menu, and the new Interruptions mode. Samsung also included an improved Touch Wiz user interface on top of the latest Android.

Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to announce the successor of the Galaxy S5, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its alleged curved screen display variant, on March 1 at its Unpacked event in Barcelona. The handset is likely to be pre-installed with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.
