'Supergirl' plot spoilers: season 1 villains revealed at San Diego Comic Con 2015

Maxwell Lord DC Comics

CBS held a panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con for their upcoming television series "Supergirl," starring Melissa Benoist as the titular superhero. The panel tackled several aspects of the show, such as putting it on CBS instead of The CW where it's "cousin" shows "Arrow" and "The Flash" are, as well as the key villains fans will see this first season.

According to the panel, "Twilight" veteran Peter Facinelli will portray the character Maxwell Lord. The character has been portrayed as both a hero and villain in the DC comics but in the context of the panel's discussion, it appears that he will be a major villain. Executive producer Greg Berlanti even stated that he will be Supergirl's "main human foil."

This would bring to mind a Lex Luthor vibe. Superman's greatest villain has been Lex Luthor, a human with no super powers but is known for being the smartest man alive and is also a wealthy businessman and philanthropist. Lord is also an influential businessman and later gain meta-human telepathic powers and also became a cyborg for some time.

Livewire DC Comics

The other villains to be featured in season 1 will be Reactron and Livewire. Reactron was a former army soldier who was critically wounded and could only survive by wearing a unique power suit. Livewire, traditionally a villain for Superman, is a woman capable of manipulating electricity and also tends to trash-talk Superman on the radio.

No casting for these two villains have been confirmed at the time of writing.

Berlanti also stated during the panel that it makes sense for Superman villains to make an appearance on "Supergirl." Superman exists in the show's universe and it would only be a matter of time for his villains to also come across Supergirl's path.

The panel also confirmed that there are no current plans for the show to crossover with Berlanti's other shows, "Arrow" and "The Flash," mainly because they are on The CW network despite also being his creations.

"Supergirl" premieres this Oct. 26.
