After much speculation of characters that might be added to Nintendo's "Super Smash Bros. 4" for the 3DS and Wii U, the most recent Nintendo Direct revealed that the next DLC character would in fact be Cloud Strife, the main protagonist of the highly acclaimed RPG serires "Final Fantasy VII."
Cloud will be available in his original "Final Fantasy VII" costume and will have an alternate costume that is a direct take from his costume in the film sequel, "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children." The promotional video also reveals Cloud will primarily use his signature Buster Sword as his main weapon.
The video showcases a variety of Cloud's fighting moves and techniques. He is also capable of executing his Limit Breaks from the main game, particularly his "Omnislash," although it is unclear if this is just a special move or if it will be his Ultimate Smash.
Much like the varied moveset for Mega Man, Cloud will also have the option to use Materia and summon special beasts such as Ifrit, Leviathan, Ramuh, and Bahamut. It is unclear at this point what pre-requisites are needed for Cloud to cast these summons.
Along with Cloud Strife, the game will also receive a stage based on Midgar, the starting city in "Final Fantasy VII." The trailer indicates that the stage will have its own hazards and such as a possible meteor strike, reminsicent of the Meteor attack that occurs at the end of "Final Fantasy VII."
There will also be new costumes for Mii Fighters. In particular, this DLC will give Mii Fighters to wear Chocobo suits.
According to a report from IGN, the addition of Cloud Strife is a little bit of a surprise given that "Final Fantasy VII" has never released on a Nintendo console before. "Final Fantasy VII" was originally released on the PlayStation One and its upcoming remake is scheduled for the PS4.
Cloud has appeared on Nintendo consoles but only via the 3DS "Kingdom Hearts" game and the two "Theatrhythm Final Fantasy" titles.
No official release for the DLC has yet been announced.
