'Suicide Squad' news: Common confirmed to play a character named Monster T

 Warner Bros. Pictures

The "Suicide Squad" movie will be filled to the brim with DC villains but one character that has remained a mystery was that of rapper-actor Common. However, in an interview with Complex, Common finally gave some details on who his character is and what his relation will be to the central cast of characters in the film.

"My role in 'Suicide Squad' is basically a character who's in business with The Joker," Common explained when asked about his involvement in the film. "His name is Monster T."

According to a report from Cinema Blend, while the name is different, it is likely that Monster T is the film's version of the Tattooed Man from DC comic books. This is further made likely by the fact that Common's character on the film's IMDB page is listed as the Tattooed Man instead of Monster T.

The Tattooed Man is a villain that can utilize his tattooes by bringing them to life, such as using the poisonous snake tattoo to instantly take down unsuspecting foes. The character in the comics also has tattoos of a demon, a tiger, a crocodile and even a raven.

The video from Complex reveals that Common's Monster T has a very similar design philosophy, but instead of a snake tattoo on his head, he has a third eye and what appears to be a giant beast. It is hinted that this will allow Monster T to gain additional perceptive skills and the ability to summon a raging beast when in the thick of battle.

Cinema Blend also points out that this type of character would fit in perfectly as one of the Joker's allies. The Joker (Jared Leto) has been shown to have his own small army in the "Suicide Squad" trailers thus far and it is entirely possible that Monster T is an integral part of the Joker's group.

"Suicide Squad" opens in theaters this Aug. 5.
