'Street Fighter V' DLC characters announced

Street Fighter V Capcom

Along with the announcement of F.A.N.G. which completes the roster of "Street Fighter V," Capcom has also unveiled the Season Pass for the game and the six characters that will later be available via DLC. As per the official PlayStation Blog, these characters will release throughout the game's first year.

The six characters include Alex, Urien and Ibuki from "Street Fighter III," Guile and Balrog from "Street Fighter II" and Juri from "Street Fighter IV."

According to the announcement, the season pass will cost $29.99 and will come with all six characters ready for download. They will also come with their premium costume and an individual PS4 theme. However, Capcom has also made it clear that all of DLC content can be acquired simply by playing the game instead of using cash.

"Street Fighter V" allows players to earn zenny, the in-game currency, simply by playing. Players can either buy 100 zenny for $0.99 or just keep playing to earn zenny as rewards for matches. 4,000 zenny can be bought for $29.99. Each of the DLC characters mentioned above cost 600 zenny and their premium costumes will cost another 400 zenny.

Putting all that together, the season pass offers content worth $60 for only half the price, making it an incentive for players who want to unlock the DLC content immediately.

Another incentive for North American players is the inclusion of three exclusive PS4 avatars (M. Bison, Chun-Li and Ryu) for those purchase the season before Feb. 16, 2016.

The season pass is already available for North American players to purchase. Players in Europe will be able to buy the season pass upon the game's launch.

Using this method of updating the game is a new strategy for Capcom and the "Street Fighter" franchise in general. Previous games did not utilize DLC packs and instead were merely re-released under a new title and new price. "Street Fighter IV" has received so many re-releases, the most complete being "Ultra Street Fighter IV."

"Street Fighter V" releases for the PC and PS4 in early 2016.
