'Star Wars Battlefront' news: Double XP weekend starts today

"Star Wars Battlefront" players will be able to acquire double the usual amount of experience points this weekend.

To be more specific, the double XP event will kick off this Friday and will run all the way through Valentine's Day, according to the game's official website.

The double XP weekend event coming to "Star Wars Battlefront" is a reward for the game's active community.

Recently, Electronic Arts (EA) tasked the game's players with a community mission that called on them to complete more than three million daily challenges.

Not only were the players able to hit the three million mark, they were even able to hike the total of completed daily challenges all the way up to 4,356,026.

EA has also announced that the next community mission will be given to "Star Wars Battlefront" players on Feb. 16.

In related news, players might soon be seeing a familiar creature added to "Star Wars Battlefront" as part of an upcoming downloadable content (DLC) pack.

In a recent exchange on Twitter, "Star Wars Battlefront" lead designer Dennis Brännval replied to a couple of fans asking about the presence of Rancors inside the game.

Brännval replied to the query with a simple "ok," before later clarifying that his response was neither a yes nor a no answer to the questions that fans posed to him. He later indicated that more details about the game's upcoming DLC would revealed later on, although he did not specify exactly when.

As Attack of the Fanboy noted, the Rancor pit in particular had made an appearance in "Star Wars Battlefront 2," so it's not unprecedented for the creature to appear in a game based on the iconic franchise.

As of now, EA is still keeping many of their DLC ideas for "Star Wars Battlefront" under wraps, although if fans have a say in the matter, then the Rancor pit will definitely be part of those plans.
