'Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One' spoilers: movie to feature Darth Vader?

Darth Vader as he appears in The Empire Strikes Back LucasFilm

There are currently two "Star Wars Anthology" films in the works, "Rogue One" and an untitled Han Solo film, with the former being handled by "Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards. The film is set to focus on a rag-tag group of rebels as they steal the Death Star plans, and according to a new report, it may have the iconic villain Darth Vader in it.

According to a report from BirthMoviesDeath, the Sith Lord will make an appearance in the film but mostly through hologram projection and on screen. It is unsure if this is the only means of which the character will be shown or if Darth Vader will be seen in person.

The report continues to state that Vader will not be the film's main antagonist but will serve as a supporting character, doing things for the Empire behind the scenes. No confirmation has yet been given on who the main villain of the film may be, although it is highly speculated to be Grand Moff Tarkin, played by Peter Cushing in "Star Wars: A New Hope."

This would make sense since it was Tarkin who took control of the Death Star during the events in "A New Hope," and it is hinted that Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) assigned Tarkin to manage the Death Star since it first began construction.

According to a report from Slash Film, it is still possible that the film's villain could be someone entirely new given the fact that it takes place between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," which is a 20-year gap.

BirthMoviesDeath also speculates on James Earl Jones being brought back to voice Darth Vader as he had in the original trilogy. The report cites that Jones voiced Vader again for "Star Wars Rebels" but noted that his voice has noticeably changed due to the actor's age. It is still possible that LucasFilm may hire a new voice actor that can replicate Jones' capabilities.

"Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One" opens in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
