As per a report from the official PlayStation Blog, "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithless" will be released on the PS4 in North America by June 28. European nations will get the game a few days later, when it launches there on July 1. The game's Western release is only for the PS4.
"Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" is the fifth game in the franchise, but as stated by the report, gamers are not required to have played previous entries in order to know what's going on. While all the games are set in the same universe, they all take place during different time periods and are designed to be self-contained stories.
Game producer Shuichi Kobayashi also explained that it has been a long time since the last entry in the series, making "Integrity and Faithlessness" a very special title. According to Shuichi, it becomes even more significant with the fact that there are fewer JRPGs out in the market today.
"The franchise has always featured exhilarating action battles and with the new game, we deliver an evolved combat system which can involve a party of up to seven characters and it is easier to execute combo attacks," he then explained in regards to new combat mechanics.
The game is available for both the PS3 and PS4 in Japan but the Western release will only be for the PS4 version. European gamers can avail of the Limited Edition and the Collector's Edition. In the U.S., these bundles will be known as the Day One Edition and the Collector's Edition.
It is important to note that both Collector's Editions can only be purchased on the Square-Enix digital store.
"Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" tells the tale of a sword-wielding hero named Fidel and his journey to protect a young, mysterious girl from evil forces while still keeping true to the franchise's nature of featuring interstellar travel and a mixture of magic and science fiction.
