'Sonic the Hedgehog 2016' news: E3 presentation doesn't give anything away

Sonic the Hedgehog Sega, Team Sonic

As reported by Game Zone, many video game studios made big announcements at this year's E3, such as the unveiling of a new "God of War" game and "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard." Sega, on the other hand, has notably disappointed fans with their E3 stream which has failed to give any substantial information.

It was expected that Sega would give information regarding some of their upcoming titles given that 2016 celebrates the 25th anniversary of "Sonic the Hedgehog."

A previous report indicated that Sega may even unveil their new "Sonic the Hedgehog" title which was initially hinted at via Twitter. Sega was also expected to give a better look at Sonic as he appears in the game "LEGO Dimensions" and a new trailer for "Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice."

However, Sega chose to showcase none of the three aforementioned games and instead took their time at E3 to announce a competition for EU fans. According to Sega, there will be a special event hosted by Sega to celebrate "Sonic the Hedgehog" and this may be when trailers and the unveiling of the new game may take place.

The winner will be given an all-expense paid trip to the upcoming Summer of Sonic event which will be held in London. The winner will also get to meet all of the Team Sonic developers. 10 runner-up contestants will be given a ticket to the event.

Fans commenting on Nintendo Life have stated that the worst E3 presentation may go to Sega for the company's inability to present any footage of their upcoming games, wasting many attendees' time by using their presence at E3 to promote a contest and a future event.

No official word has been released by Sega regarding the new "Sonic the Hedgehog" game other than the teaser that was initially posted on Twitter. It is expected to be a complete reboot of the franchise or a fifth entry in the original series that debuted on the Sega Genesis.
