An upcoming platform video game published by Sega, "Sonic Forces" is the latest addition to the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise. It will feature three different types of gameplay for new and old fans alike.

The gameplay modes that will be made available are Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic and Avatar.

In the first game mode, players will be able to dash around three-dimensional worlds as Modern Sonic, shifting screen perspectives as they pummel robots and race and leap past obstacles. In the second mode, they will be able to return to Sonic's classic roots, trading the new 3D environment for the old two-dimensional gameplay that fans of the older games are familiar with.

The third mode, Avatar, is a treat for fans of the franchise. For the first time since "Sonic" hit video game screens in 1991, fans will finally have the chance to customize and create their own in-game hero.

Avatar Mode doesn't simply limit fans to aesthetic changes to their characters, but they will be able to give their characters unique abilities that will affect how they battle enemies and make their way through levels.

According to the official website, "Sonic: Forces" is going to be an epic action platformer, and players will be hopping back into the world of Sonic to fight through a world destroyed by Dr. Eggman and a powerful new villain.

Dr. Eggman is back with a handful of allies such as Zavok, Metal Sonic and Chaos. He's badder than ever and with his brand-new team and tricks, Sonic won't be able to beat him alone. The titular protagonist must team up with friends from previous games to take the evil scientist down.

Announced during the series' 25th anniversary, "Sonic Forces" will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows PC on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
