Samsung Gear S2 vs. Apple Watch: Which smartwatch trumps?

Samsung's latest entry into the smartwatch industry, the Gear S2, may now be the best of all smartwatches from the company so far, considering it is the first to carry a circular appearance.

Samsung has released different watch designs, all with different shapes; some of them may even look awkward. But the new Gear S2 will bring more different things to tech savvy customers.

Now, CNET's Aloysius Low managed to compare how Gear S2 compares with Apple Watch.

When it comes to notifications — because that's one main purpose of the smartwatch — both devices can deliver them efficiently; but Gear S2 has more advantage when it comes to emails since users can respond to them via the device's onscreen keyboard.

When it comes to social media apps like Facebook, both devices don't offer much. Although Facebook notifications do appear on-screen, it won't allow users to click on it to open the app — that means, one still has to get their phones in order to check out what the notification is about.

However, Apple Watch may have the upper hand on this aspect, but only for viewing photos on Instagram. All in all, while Apple Watch and Gear S2 do a great job in notifying, it won't keep a user totally hands-free.

For the design, the Gear S2 obviously bears a more watch-like appeal, with its fully round design. The Verge noted that the device is way more gorgeous than any of the smartwatches released by Samsung.

Apple is also not far behind, thanks to the different wrist strap designs that add beauty to the timepiece.

Still, Gear S2 may gain more points because of the rotating bezel feature that allows user to scroll through different functions. The bezel blends with the design so well that it's hard to tell that it exists.

Meanwhile, smartwatches should be powerful enough to stay on while the user wears it on the wrist. CNET noted that Gear S2 wins when it comes to battery life.

Samsung Gear S2 and Apple Watch have starting price of $299.99 and $549, respectively.
