The word is out claiming that aside from a bunch of smartphones slated for release this year, Samsung is also working on its range of tablets.

It has been a while since Samsung released new tablets and impatience spurred more speculations on the possible tablet lines that the company will refresh, one of which is the Galaxy Tab S. Last year's models were highly regarded and cited to be at par with Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface.

According to Samsung-centric blog SamMobile, the 8.4- and 10.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S slates are loaded with 2560 x 1600 Super AMOLED displays appropriate for videos. However, new rumors are saying that the upcoming generation of the tablets will sport a 4:3 aspect ratio similar to the iPad Air 2. The resolution suggests that Samsung may also cut the screen size down to 8 and 9.7 inches.

A previous report from the same publication reported that Samsung is prepping up for the two new variants of the Galaxy Tab S lineup with model numbers SM-T710 and SM-T810. The previous line has model numbers SM-T700 and SM-T800.

The model numbers indicate that a slight change on the tablets will be incurred. This is because the specs and features of the Galaxy Tab S tablets are already top-of-the-line for the mid-range market. However, the processor, Exynos 5420, is already a little outdated and may be up for an update since it is incapable of supporting the quad HD screen display and other power hogging features that Samsung may decide to pack in the new tablets. There are whispers that the tablet will sport an Exynos 7420.

There are high hopes that these purported tablets would be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in March, but some sources are saying that the South Korean tech giant might unveil the new devices in the second or third quarter this year.
