Samsung fans might have to wait a bit longer as the next generation of the company's tablets may not arrive until the second or third quarter of this year. Many hopefuls wish to see some tablets at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March since it has been more than a year since the company released its tablets, but that may not happen. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 5 as well as new tablets in the Note and Note Pro lines may be unveiled later this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab, Tab PRO, Note, and Note PRO made headlines at last year's Consumer Electronics Show. In this year's trade show early this month, no tablet or smartphone appeared at Samsung's press conference. Moreover, Samsung-centric tech blog SamMobile discouraged consumers, saying that no tablets are slated for release at the trade shows.
However, the same publication lifted the spirits of the waiting fans as it teased that Samsung is already working on the devices. It added that the tablets will drop the 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratio in favor of 4:3, which is the same ratio as iPads.
A lot of Android-based tablets boast 16:10 aspect ratio, which is best for streaming video content. Meanwhile, Apple's iPads as well as Google's Nexus 9 and Xiamo's Mi Pad come with 4:3 aspect ratio, which is best for office-related functions. This sparked rumors that Samsung is realigning its tablets to cater to the business and educational sectors that use more productivity functions rather than accessing videos.
Rumors also claim that the Galaxy Tab SM-T35x and the Galaxy Note SM-P35x will be 7-inch tablets, while the Galaxy Tab SM-T55x and the Galaxy Note SM-P55x will sport a 10.1-inch display. Samsung tablets will most likely come with entry level Snapdragon 410 SoC with 64-bit architecture along with the latest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop. According to previous reports, the Galaxy Tab 5 10.1 will have a 10.1-inch screen display and will cost $350.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 5 7.0 will come with a 7-inch screen display with quad-core "Spreadtrum SC8830" processor clocked at 1.2 GHz paired 1 GB of RAM. The tablet will run with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS and will cost $100.
So far, Samsung has not confirmed whether it is indeed working on its new generation tablets.
