Samsung Galaxy S7 vs Galaxy S6 specs comparison: where do the key differences between the two flagships lie?

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Samsung USA

According to a report from the Nashville Chatter Class, the Samsung Galaxy S7 has been so successful that for two quarters of the year it has outsold the iPhone 6s, its main competitor. However, the report states that this comes as a surprise given that there are very few differences between the S7 and its predecessor, the Galaxy S6.

The report points out that the S7 is slightly thicker heavier and thicker, weighing a total of 152 grams compared to the 132 grams of the S6. The S7 is 7.9mm thick compared to the 6.9mm of the S6. This added bulk is stated to not only allow the S7 to have a bigger battery but it also gives the S7 room for its water and dust resistance.

However, the main difference in regards to their display is the Always On feature. This feature, found on the S7, displays the time and date without having to turn the phone back on from sleep mode. Samsung reportedly claims this only consumes 1 percent of the phone's battery and can be turned off if the owner really doesn't need it.

Performance-wise, the S7 is a small step of an improvement but it is a noticeable one nonetheless. Where the S6 stuck with a single processor Exynos 7420 SoC chip and 3GB RAM, the S7 went with the Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM. It is also notable that the S6 has no expandable storage options while the S7 comes with a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy S7 also has a faster GPU, faster processor that is benchmarked to be 30 percent more efficient than the S6 and it has a 3,000 mAh battery that lasts longer than the S6's 2,550 mAh of the S6. The report also points out that the camera of the S7 is a major improvement compared to the camera built into the Samsung Galaxy S6.
