Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge release date set will be at Unpacked Event, hints invite

Will the soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge look exactly like the Galaxy Note Edge? Samsung Galaxy website

There is now a strong hint to back up the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The company recently sent out invitations for its upcoming Unpacked event in March, and that raises everyone's hopes for the announcement of another handset with curved display.

The press invite shows an image of a curved line that is certainly a clue on what should be expected from Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone. Many suggest that the company could be unveiling a Samsung Galaxy S6 variant with curved screen, similar to what it did with the Galaxy Note Edge back in September. The invite states March 1 Unpacked event, which is a day ahead of the Mobile World Congress.

At this point, it's difficult to deny the adamant rumors claiming that the Galaxy S6 Edge is part of the company's line up this year. An image from German site All About Samsung looks like a smartphone reminiscent of the Galaxy Note Edge.

Last week, a leak from Vodafone Netherlands hinted on the existence of Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge as the source code of the alleged device appeared in the carrier's website. The device was named Galaxy S Edge without the "6."

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and its curved edge variant will most likely share the same specs. The smartphones are rumored to feature a screen panel measuring 5 to 5.5 inches with either Full HD or quad HD resolution.

Since rumors have arisen that Samsung turned down Qualcomm's latest chipset, the Snapdragon 810 SoC, the smartphones will most likely pack the Exynos 7 processor with 4 GB of RAM. Other purported features of the smartphones are 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants with microSD slot for additional storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 3.1-megapixel front-facing camera, and longer battery life. The handset will most likely run with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. However, none of these features is confirmed by the South Korean tech giant.
