Samsung Galaxy S5 GPE release date soon? Specs and rumored features

Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition release date soon? Android.com

Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition may come soon, according to latest reports.

Google itself hinted of the arrival of the handset. The alleged handset was spotted on the updated website of Android OS. With the release of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google revamped the web pages, which feature the recently released devices of the company. Seen on the website are Nexus devices, Android Wear smartwatches, and Google Play Edition phones.

The alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play edition was propped next to the Nexus 6, the Nexus 9, and the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition. This sparked the rumors that the release of the said device is imminent.

This is not the first time that the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 GPE has been rumored. The device was first reported to arrive in July at the time of the Google I/O. Samsung Galaxy S5 is considered as one of the top-of-the-line smartphones. However, with the inception of new and better smartphones, Galaxy S5 was pushed to the back of the line.

According to rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S5 GPE will pack a 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED screen display. It will be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 paired with 2 GB of RAM. The device will offer users with 32 GB of storage space with additional microSD card slot of up to 128 GB external storage. The handset will sport a 16 MP rear camera and 2 MP front-facing camera as well as 2800 mAh battery pack. The smartphone will surely run with Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

This device will likely be the same as the Samsung Galaxy S5 off-contract and is speculated to cost $699.99, which is similar to the HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition that is already available in Google Play Store.

Some consumers prefer devices without the Samsung skin and UI. However, there is no concrete word from Google regarding the release of the device.
