Sami Hayek, the brother of actress Salma Hayek, was involved in a fatal accident in Los Angeles today.

The 40-year-old was driving eastbound on Sunset Boulevard before losing control of his Ford GT sports car, reportedly worth $165,000. His vehicle crossed over to westbound traffic and hit a Toyota truck.

The unidentified passenger sitting in Sami Hayek's vehicle died at the scene due to blunt trauma. He has been described as a 43-year-old male from Mexico.

Salma Hayek's brother suffered broken ribs and cut his head in the collision. He was taken to nearby Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was 20-year-old Alvin Javier Gomez, who suffered a broken foot.

The car accident took place just before 5 p.m. PT on Sunday, Feb. 23. Authorities are investigating how Hayek crossed over the yellow line.

Hayek is a furniture designer and runs his own design studio in Los Angeles. He is married to Daniela Villegas, a jewelry-designer.
