'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' spoilers: Mads Mikkelsen shares spoiler regarding his character

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Lucasfilm

Actor Mads Mikkelsen did not appear in the trailer for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and his role thus far has been a mystery. However, the actor has given a big spoiler regarding his character's role in the movie's plot during an interview with BBC's Sky News.

"I read the script and it was very beautiful. Felicity Jones is playing this lovely, strong woman. I play her father. That's too much, I'm sorry," the actor explained during the interview.

Felicity Jones is portraying the lead character of the film, Jyn Erso, who is depicted in the trailers as a criminal who later joins the Rebellion against the Empire, a few years before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope." It is now speculated that Mikkelsen's character is a former Rebellion soldier or a criminal in hiding.

It is also possible that Mikkelsen's character is a former member of the Empire and may have left in order to live a life of peace. This peace is then broken when his daughter joins the Rebellion and becomes a key member in the mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.

In a follow-up interview with the Evening Standard, Mikkelsen revealed that he is indeed Erso's father and that the movie will go back and forth between the present day and the past via flashbacks. He will be portraying the same character in both time periods although it is likely a younger actress will play a younger version of Jyn Erso.

During the interview, Mikkelsen also stated that the movie will have several new characters and several returning characters such as Darth Vader, who is expected to play a villainous role as he hunts down the Rebel soldiers infiltrating the Death Star.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will come to theaters this coming Dec. 16.
