'Resident Evil 4' PS4, Xbox One release date: Game out on current-gen consoles on Aug. 30

Resident Evil 4 Capcom

"Resident Evil 4," one of the most highly acclaimed entries in the long-running horror-action series, will be re-released for the PS4 and Xbox One this coming end of August. Capcom made the announcement on their official blog and confirmed that the re-release will see a graphical upgrade and come with all the game's bonus content.

According to the blog post, the extra content and updates that were released for the PS2 and later iterations of the game will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One remaster. This includes the New Game Plus mode, the Ada Wong campaign and the Mercenaries mode. Extra content will also include the bonus costumes such as Ashley's armor suit.

IGN reports that the game will come exactly on Aug. 30 and is expected to cost $20 for both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. This is surprisingly a very low and affordable price for a remaster given that some PS4 and Xbox One updates can cost up to $40, particularly when they come with all the bonus content in one package.

Gamespot reports that the price tag is the same with the PS4 and Xbox One ports of "Resident Evil 5" and "Resident Evil 6," both of which have been criticized for being plagued with bugs and glitches.

"Resident Evil 4" intiially launched back in 2005 and was intended to be a Gamecube exclusive but in the same year it also launched for the PlayStation 2, where it introduced many of the aforementioned bonus content. Numerous ports have since been released, including a regular and an HD port for the PC, the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game is widely praised for bringing life back into the franchise by introducing full 3D environments, the over-the-shoulder camera, a new type of enemy that was more dangerous than the regular, slow-moving zombie and faster action while still retaining the isolation, low resources, puzzles and horror themes of the classic games.
