When "Red Dead Redemption 2" was announced, it was revealed that the game is only launching on the Xbox One and the Playstation 4. A petition has been launched to get the game released on PC, but it is also notable that there is no planned port for the newly unveiled Nintendo Switch.
This becomes particularly puzzling given that the "Red Dead Redemption 2" trailer released just hours after Nintendo unveiled the Switch, hinting that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games waited for the Switch to be revealed before they showcase the new game.
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, as per Game Rant, states that the chances of the game being ported to the Nintendo Switch are "exceedingly poor," and he also points out that the only Rockstar Games title that ever got released on a Nintendo console or handheld was "GTA: China Town."
"I'd be really surprised if they wasted their effort to port anything for Nintendo. I just think that Nintendo has wandered too far away from the mainstream for most of the publishers, so you're just not getting mainstream games produced for Nintendo consoles - not ones made for other consoles, at any rate," he explains.
It should be noted that there are some major mainstream games that will launch on the Switch, given that numerous third-party supporters have revealed they will be making games for the said console. One of these includes Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead" games.
Game Rant also points out that both "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and "NBA 2K17" appeared in the Nintendo Switch trailer. While they are not yet confirmed to be launching for the console, it is possible that the developers and Nintendo have at least considered them.
On the other hand, beyond "GTA: China Town," there has been no other Rockstar Games title on a Nintendo console, and the company has indeed strayed far from the mainstream consumer for "Red Dead Redemption 2" to make an impact on the Switch's target audience.
As it stands, "Red Dead Redemption 2" will launch only for the PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
