'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date expected to be announcement at E3

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar Games

"Red Dead Redemption 2" is one of the most highly anticipated games from Rockstar Games, and while the studios have not yet confirmed that it is in development, a report from VideoGamer points out that they are making a big announcement at this year's E3.

According to the report, Take-Two Interactive, the publisher for developers such as Rockstar Games, will be present at E3. The publisher will reportedly be making big announcements and revelations throughout the event. The company has already unveiled "Civilization VI," "Battleborn" and "Mafia 3." An announcement for "Red Dead Redemption 2 " is expected as well.

Tthere are many speculations that instead of being a sequel to the first game it may be a prequel set several years prior. It was previously reported that hints of this leaked online when an alleged map for the game was released online. This map's design suggests that the game is a prequel as it lacks some of the features that would appear in the first game.

Game Rant reports that if the game is indeed a prequel, then it may be possible that players will take control of Landon Ricketts, a legendary outlaw that the first game's protagonist John Marston looked up to. The prequel game may focus on how Ricketts became the iconic gunslinger.

The report points out that the leaked map showcases Blackwater as part of the game's setting and it is possible that the story could focus on Ricketts' conflict with the Butcher Brothers and the Blackwater Massacre, ending with his decision to quit the dangerous life and become the retired fighter players meet in "Red Dead Redemption."

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have yet to make any confirmation regarding "Red Dead Redemption 2" and about the games they have lined up for E3, therefore the information should still be considered as a rumor until proven otherwise.
