Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios are introducing "Prey," a first-person action game set in an alternate reality concerning non-terrestrials. The road to its development has been rocky, considering past events that occurred in production.

Back in August at QuakeCon, GameSpot learned from Bethesda marketing vice president Pete Hines that plans of creating "Prey 2" have been canceled. "I mean, honestly, it's really not that complicated. It hit a point where it wasn't shaping up to be what we wanted and there didn't seem to be a clear path to get to where we thought it needed to be. We decided the best thing to do was just to not proceed. That's just it," Hines mentioned.

Now, developers decided to work on it with a different perspective, thinking of how things would be if one point in history was altered. As per Bethesda's blog post, the story revolves around the reality where John F. Kennedy survived assassination, giving birth to the United States' increased involvement in space exploration.

To be more specific, the government has taken over a space facility that originally went haywire when containment of non-terrestrials, known as Typhons, failed. It was then transformed into a Research and Development facility with two main functions: to ensure the Typhons don't go anywhere else and to use them for research. This is where Morgan Yu's story, the player's character, starts.

It appears the containment project was a huge failure yet again, and Morgan wakes up in an area filled with Typhons. Morgan, who is a test-subject for inhumane experiments, must do everything to survive using alien-based powers.

PC Games N enumerated some of the player's abilities in the game. One of which is Mimic Matter, an ability that allows the gamer to turn into inanimate objects to avoid raising suspicion. Another is Superthermal, which is an offensive ability where the player positions a trap and triggers a plasma beam to deal damage. The last one is the GLOO cannon, which can be used both for survival and navigation.

No announcement has been made yet, only that it is expected to be released in 2017.
