'Pokémon Go' updates: Huge summer event coming in July

"Pokémon Go" is going to have a huge summer event coming in July.

In an interview with Japanese website K-Tai Watch earlier this month, Niantic Asian General Manager Yoshiji Kawashima and Asian General Marketing Manager Kenji Suka revealed that there is a huge event for "Pokémon Go" expected to be launched in July 2017.

In a translated version, Kawashima said, "I hope you are looking forward to this huge event this Summer. Please look forward to it. Engineers are working hard now so that new functions can be implemented."

The same interview revealed that new in-game mechanics are currently in development. As for the new features, the huge event of "Pokémon Go" is anticipated to launch several fan-requested activities such as legendary events, group raids, player vs player (PvP) battles, and player trading.

Even though there are no specifics yet, there are rumors that for the raids, players may have the chance to team up and battle a legendary Pokémon. If they win, they will be rewarded with a rare Pokémon.

Meanwhile, aside from the upcoming event, Niantic is reportedly working with the local government to conduct large events such as the one held at Japan's Tohoku Region. In addition to this, there are rumors that the developer is working on an augmented reality (AR) wearable device. At the moment, the said device is still in progress, as they are waiting for the technology to mature.

Niantic is busy in organizing events and perks in order to keep its players interested. Just last week, the developer launched the Easter Event where players had the chance to hatch their egg at a quicker pace. Recently, the Water Festival was also held, where players had the chance to catch shiny Magikarp and evolve it to red Gyarados.

"Pokémon Go" is an augmented reality game released last July. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.
